Making roads safer for our communities

Those who ply the roads in Sheikhupura couldn’t be happier because they feel they’ve learned a great deal from this facility. “I am careful with how I drive my vehicle now,” says driver, Mustafa. “I used to be reckless before but through the program I learnt how to be a safe driver so that I don’t endanger my life as well as the lives of others,” he adds. The training provided at National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) institute has not only helped Mustafa and many others like him become better drivers but has also enabled them to reap monetary benefits. “Ever since I started driving carefully, the company gave me a raise. That was a bonus,” says a beaming Mustafa.

Nestlé Pakistan, in collaboration with the National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP), established the first drivers’ training institute near Sheikhupura with the objective of ensuring the safety and well-being of the communities it operates in.

The Drivers Training Institute is a fully equipped facility that has been providing training under the supervision of experts, not just to the drivers of Nestlé Pakistan and NH&MP, but also catering for the drivers’ training needs of other public and corporate organizations of the country. The entire facility features a driving safety training track, blocks comprising classrooms and also a high-tech driving simulator. Till date, the Drivers Safety Program has trained more than 19,000 drivers, including over 4,600 Nestlé drivers.

Nestlé Pakistan has also developed another Drivers Training Facility located at National Highway in Karachi, again in partnership with NH&MP, to focus on safe driving training for drivers in the South. Nestlé Driver’s Safety Program is in commitment with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 11, which is making cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

Nestlé believes that accidents are preventable and therefore “one accident is one too many”. We integrate Safety and Health in the management of our business in such a way that all activities are considered with a perspective of prevention of all types of accidents and protection of the people at work.
